Sign Language Reflection

I really enjoyed the sign language element. At first I was wary of why we were learning sign language in a TESOL class. It seemed more realistic and applicable to me if we had Spanish or Navajo lessons. I soon realized knowing sign language would be extremely beneficial in a classroom setting. I also learned a great deal about students with hearing losses, it is very common for children to have some degree of a hearing impairment. I feel Vicki Bruno gave us the tools we need to accomadate students with hearing losses. Vicki also explained to us the benefits of incorporating sign language at the whole class level. I can see it benefiting because it is a tactile experience that would be a useful tool when working with kinestic learners. Students are also being exposed to a new language.

I am very thankful for the experience we were able to have with sign language. I know it is something I will use in my future classrooms. I am also grateful for the new experience it provided me with, I had no prior experience with sign language and feel I learned so much.
